Teeth Whitening Strips

A more recent method of teeth whitening, strips are easy to use and you don't have to deal with messy gels or liquids.

How Do Teeth Whitening Strips Work?

Whitening strips are thin, almost invisible, pieces of plastic that contain a small coating of a bleaching agent (usually peroxide). The strips are applied twice a day to the teeth for a half an hour or so.

Are Whitening Strips Effective?

Although they do not contain the concentrated amount of peroxide found in teeth whitening gel kits, strips can produce noticeable results after a few weeks. A common problem with strips is that they do not curve well to the sides of the teeth. This can cause the front teeth to whiten while the side teeth stay dark.

Pros:

  • Relatively inexpensive
  • Easy to use
  • Invisible
  • Strips do not make you gag like mouth trays can

Cons:

  • Not as powerful as other methods of teeth whitening
  • Can cause tooth sensitivity
  • Inconsistent results

The Bottom Line on Whitening Strips

Some people seem to have more success with whitening strips than others. But even though there are more consistent methods of teeth whitening out there, strips will remain popular because of their convenience and at home ease of use.
